Tim Stuart is a dynamic saxophonist and pianist originally from Staunton, Virginia. He launched his career at just 16 years old, performing R&B, Soul, and Funk—genres that laid the foundation for his bold, groove-driven sound. His versatility quickly opened doors in both civilian and military music circles, leading to performances and collaborations with artists and ensembles such as Craig Morgan, Fred Wesley, Michael Lington, the NATO Jazz Orchestra, the U.S. Army Blues, and the Rebirth Brass Band.
Now based near Montgomery, Alabama, Tim is an in-demand multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and creative force across multiple projects. He is the founder and group leader of the funk-jazz-fusion project Half Step Revolution, co-founder and current musical/marketing director and pianist for the Montgomery Jazz Alliance, saxophonist for Aaron Bostic & The Greater Good, and a featured guest performer with the high-energy Gumptown Brass Band. He also plays saxophone, piano, and percussion with Virginia-based roots-rock band John Paul Douglas & The Bitter Trades (formerly Who Shot John), prominently featured on their 2024 album release Cut No Switch.
In addition to civilian work, Tim serves as a Musical Performance Team Leader and acting First Sergeant for the 313th U.S. Army Band. He is frequently called upon as a guest clinician and performer for military bands across active duty, reserve, and national guard components worldwide. As a freelance artist, he performs at corporate events, weddings, dueling piano shows, and under his solo brand Solo Sax Live!, earning recognition for his electrifying presence, technical mastery, and stylistic range across jazz, R&B, funk, rock, and Top 40.
A dedicated composer and arranger, Tim’s works have been featured internationally in both civilian and military recordings, including productions for the U.S. Department of Defense and NATO. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Bridgewater College and a Graduate Certificate in Business from Liberty University, with advanced training from the U.S. Navy and Army Schools of Music, where he earned instructor qualifications on both saxophone and piano.
As an educator, Tim maintains a private studio teaching classical and jazz saxophone, piano, improvisation, and production. He also provides consulting and masterclasses to students and musicians of all ages seeking to develop their artistry and career.
The Montgomery Jazz Alliance kicked off a three-week jazz series Sunday afternoon, Oct 19th at The Lyric at Esther’s in downtown Prattville, AL as part of the city’s annual Parade of Pumpkins celebration. From 2–5 p.m., families, shoppers, and festival-goers filled the new venue to enjoy a lively mix of swing, funk, and modern jazz.
The ensemble featured Tim Stuart (saxophone & keys), Trevor Sikorski (trombone), Joe Lauziere (guitar), Jeremiah Cowling (bass), and Benjamin Weldon (drums). The performance marked one of the first live music events hosted at The Lyric during its opening weekend.
Due to the success of the debut show, the Montgomery Jazz Alliance will return for two additional Sunday performances on October 26 and November 2, again from 2–5 p.m. Both concerts are open to the public and family-friendly.
Half Step Revolution is a jazz fusion and funk collective redefining groove-based improvisation in the Southeast. Formed in September of 2025 by keyboardist/saxophonist Tim Stuart, bassist Joe Lauziere, and guitarist/keyboardist Matt Clements, the group discovered during their first rehearsal that they all lived less than a mile apart—“just a half step away.” Their instant chemistry sparked a sound rooted in pocket, harmony, and fearless improvisation. The later addition of Auburn, AL based drummer Isaac Hayes deepened the group’s dynamic range, bringing explosive energy and precision to every performance.
Their music blends the spirit of Herbie Hancock and Marcus Miller with the soulful groove of D’Angelo, Soulive, and Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor. With tight arrangements and bold solos, they reinvent jazz standards like Footprints and Red Clay, flip pop hits such as Rock With You and Eleanor Rigby, and deliver music that grooves, explores, and connects—stirring your soul and shaking your butt.
Now booking shows for the Fall & Winter of 2025, expect to see Tim leading this fantastic group of young lions at venues throughout the South in the coming months! Learn more, Like, Follow, & Subscribe at Facebook.com/halfsteprevolution
